PART 2: Google Reader HOT TIPS

So, you've added all your blogs into Google Reader. Enjoying the ease of reading all ya blogs in one place. You feel so-up-to-date and have a few more hours in the day to make those cookies and watch a little Masterchef too. BUT did you know there are a 2 things that we lurrrveeee about Google Reader.
Here goes...

1. Stats (Statistics)
Find out how regularly a blogger posts and an estimate of RSS readership. Note that this readership number only calculates Google Reader subscribers not direct hits or any other RSS feeds, so it is indicative only.

2. Starred items
Like-a-post? Want to remember it for that time you need it. Bookmark an image. Well just simply click the star next to the title of the post. Then go to your "starred items" in the left hand side bar to scroll through your bookmarked items. Friggin' genius!

Hope we've taught you a little something-something this week.
Don't forget keep in the loop on via Facebook or follow us on twitter.

PART 1: How to Manage your Blogs & love them too!

It's a question I get a lot. "How do you keep up with what goes on especially with the www going so fast?"

Two words. Blogs. Twitter. They are the fastest form of media and news - they are almost instant, making Blogs the new form of PR and some of the powerhouses of the online arena. To manage one side - blogs - I use an RSS feed, the most well known one is Google Reader. Here is a step-by-step guide of how to set one up. Don't be scared it's really easy and will mean morning blog reading is a breeze.

1. Sign up for a Google Reader account.

2. Add a Subscription, enter the Blog URL into the box. Top left!

3. Your subscription will pop up in the side bar. BOLD indicates that there is new content to view - a new post. Once you have clicked on the post, view it in the right hand side then scroll and it will UNBOLD. The number in the brackets indicates how many unread posts there are.

So you can read ONLY the ones with new content rather then typing in every, single URL into the browser - genius - ding, ding, ding!

4. You can now add more blogs, then categorise the blogs into folders by clicking the side arrow and selecting New Folder, simply drag and drop the blogs into the folders.

So once you get this set up we can show you some HOT TIPS that make Google Reader, so super for Blog management, reading and keeping up-to-date.

Super-Stylist Mr Jason Grant

If I could turn back time and have THAT life-forsaken question asked, "What do you wanna be when you grow up?" - I would have said stylist.

Back then, it was - are you gonna be a doctor, optometrist (mum, I know you still want me to be one), dentist, vet, lawyer? No one ever told me you could work your creative ways as a full time job, shop at the same time and stop for the occasional coffee with le macaroon as a lunch break.

I had the pleasure of meeting Mr Jason Grant during at Life Instyle a few years ago. Back then, he was the resident stylist at Real Living Magazine - scoutin' the hottest and stylish new products on the market then weaving his magic for shoot after shoot.

Now-a-days, Mr Jason Grant is a super-stylist extraordinare, who now works as a freelance stylist on projects for various magazines, Officeworks AND on his OWN branded paint for Murobond?! Look at him NOW. Plus, he's one of the nicest people about town - no wonder he's killin' it.

Definitely, check out his blog here. He documents his inspiration and finds on a daily basis making it great for us folk to-know-whats-hot-right-now. By the way, how cute is his logo (the dog) - lurve it!

Mojito? Pina Colada?

Oui! Oui! We'd never turn down a minty mojito or a coco-nutty pina colada - nup, never. Hot off the press is our new promotion for Bacardi Lion and it's a goodie.

The main prize is an awesome trip cruising around the Whitsunday’s for 5 long sun filled days and 5 balmy nights aboard Alan Bond’s ex-racing yacht with 5 of your closest mates! An aspirational prize in the lead up to summer! If that's not good enough, there will be a Bacardi Together Party pack to be won every week. Now, would you say NO to THAT - would ya?!

The promotion has just begun and ends on 5th September - so c'mon - you gotta be in it to WIN it. And FYI we rang some winners of the Tim Tam Timless promotion last week AND there were lots of happy winners all round, some with just one entry - proof that you can be a winner and a grinner.

REMEMBER DRINK RESPONSIBLY.

My favourite things in July

1. Cow & Moon
This takes the TOP spot, this month and the month before and the one before that. It's no secret, locals have known about this hot-to-trot gelato bar long before The Sydney Royal Easter Show crowned them many a GOLD AND waaay before The Sydney Magazine dubbed them gelato royalty. It's our late night secret, dashes to get a few scoops of creamy, delightful gelato. Yes, the 'lime in the coconut' is pretty-damn-tastic. Our picks are the 'salty caramel banana' or the 'after dinner mint' or the ' malto bliss' aka mars bar. Or the 'panacotta'. Well, you get the drift. This place is the shit, you'll go GAGA for the gelato too.

181 Enmore Rd (Cnr London St), Enmore (opposite the Enmore Theatre)

 2. Grandma's Bar
My grandma isn't this hip but she doe's live in a place much bigger than this new small bar. Pint-sized with exposed brick walls, yellow retro wallpaper, hot mulled wine with fan-dangle jaffles - it's small in size but large in attitude. Jam-packed at 6pm, you're gonna have to be in-it-to-win-it or merely willing to play a some-musical-chairs 'cause it's the HOT SPOT Sydneysiders are loving. The vibe is relaxed the staff very friendly, the drink list - oh yeah - not so small at all.  If only it has grandpa's next door?!

3. Siphons at Single Origin Sideshow
Didn't you know lattes are so nineteen nineties? It's all about the smooth, crisp taste of a siphon coffee. A 1950s contraption brought back into the coffee world to make our taste buds dance with the REAL bean taste. Hot water carefully siphoned from bottom section through the coffee in the top section then back down to the bottom section over a flame. Don't ask how it works, we failed physics BUT we do know the taste is smooth and clean - the milk can find another home elsewhere. Try it. The barista boys surely will look after you.

Moshi Moshi

Good Morning 31st second... *bang* *Adele what was that?!" *mwahahaha*

That's what it's like answering a phone at 31stHQ. A little noisy, to say the least. But with every problem, there is a solution. And it's a pretty nifty one too (bow down to Libby here). What is it?

Take one iphone (preferably #4, 'cause its faster) ADD SOME Moshi Moshi - WHOALA!
Instant "Cone of Silence". Yep, we tested it.

I thought, these add ons had no use when they first came on the market, you know the typical reaction, "why on earth would you want to get one and walk around with it?".

Two words. Proven. Wrong. *eating my words as I type*

Want one? Ka-ching here.

Pssst, stalk us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter. Come on, you know you want to.

Stop. Motion. Love.

We know it's been a bit overused in lotsa ad campaigns of late, but we do love a great. stop. motion. This is so cute we couldn't help but go Ooooh at the end. Even you will. Props to Sumo Science for this beauty.

Happy Monday!

Sizzle it. BBQ in July.

It's cold but nothing beats the smell of a good snag on the barbie. We had a team lunch with lots of tasty sausages, not-your-average-from-the-supermarket-ones, we're talkin' wagyu beef and pork & fennel - you salivating right now? Well, you should be.

The diet-conscious we're well looked after as well - barbies needn't be all fatty and greasy. Tender lamb and chicken skewers with a fresh green salad, all went down a treat. AND NO smoke alarm! Didn't get a shot of it but we took turns waving an old presentation board around to move that smoke in the other direction. Funny, but true!

To see all the Bar-be-que action head over to our Facebook page.

A big thanks to Rach for the meat, salad and sauce organ-ing, VK & the Dr for making the BBQ, and the wash-er-up-ers. Great finish to a hectic few weeks.

31st Friend: Nathaniel Kiwi

Nathaniel Kiwi is one of our creative friends who's artwork is so detailed and amazing we are so thrilled to know someone so talented. He's been featured in the uber cool Semi Permanent Book, been interviewed on the Vine and even graced the pages of MX.

His work speaks for itself, and we have dibbs on any of the mask paintings (featured below) for the living room, it'll go well with the ever expanding kid robot collection on every shelf of the house. We can also see Nath's paintings turned into repeat pattern fabrics, hello fashion brands - get in there first.

You too, can see what we're banging on 'bout - this week Nath's part of ALLSTARZ ‘emerging artists on the ascent’ at the Iain Dawson Gallery in Paddington. Get on down there, check it out and sign up to his mailing list too - this is definitely one to watch *awwwww*.
