A few of our favourite things in October

This is a little late - we know! It's been hectic over at 31stHQ. Pitches, the odd staff member taking holidays, sick kids, you know the drill... but we are all ready for the Melbourne Cup. Yeeeehaaaaa!
Who you backing?
Got any tips?
Send 'em over, quicksmart!

Anywho, these are our late favourite things for October, enjoy.

1. Gourmet Shaved Ice Cream
Halfway through the 7 Bridges Walk yesterday, hot, sweaty and a little tired I picked up a Mango gourmet shaved ice cream cup. It was a healthy, cold and a deliciously not-too-sweet treat. Believe it or not it even though it was mostly ice, it has a creamy texture in the mout. Kinda like a Weis bar minus the tart artificial taste (sorry Weis lovers!). I didn't get to catch the shop name but I'm gonna hunt it down so you too can try it.

2. Tokyo Times
I highly recommend taking a quick trip to Tokyo if you get a chance. FYI, I'm the staff member taking the odd holiday, hehe. It's only a mere 9 hours away and you get to hoe down on ramen, the freshest sushi, funny store names and generally get totally lost in translation.

3. Mamak
If you love a roti (flat and round, flakey, buttery malaysian bread) and dipping into curry sauces, then this is the destination for you. Not only is the roti amazing - both savoury and sweet versions (yes, the big sweet roti tower with icecream underneath is a sight to be seen) but the satay sticks rock our world. You'll definitely need to get 10 sticks, 5 just won't do!

My favourite things in August

Geez louise, this year is tickin' along and we can't believe we are seeing snippets of summer and trekking full force right through to Christmas.

This month we've been lovin...

1. Tokyo Bike
The newest edition to the 31stsecond office, she's light, fast and a city commuter bike that has the strength to go from suburb-to-suburb. Straight out of Japan, these Japs sure-do know how to make good gadgets. Jadore.

2. Barbeques and Beetroot sausages
Rach and Libs were all over this like-white-on-rice. We hoovered these pork and beetroot sausages quicker than you can schazam that song. Pick them up at Dulwich Hill Gourmet Butchers, and a little word of warning - locals know these puppies sell out by midday so chopity-chop! Check them out here.

3. Feast Magazine
SBS's newest edition to their successful foodie empire. The velvety cover got me in, great graphics and no-nonsense styling totally had us by page 3. With lots more than just recipes - this mag - takes you through butchery how-to's and SBS's signature 6 billion stories and counting philosophy focusing on how food enhances story telling and is a cultural enhancer. Check the mag out here.
