POP UP ENVY

M.A.S.S.I.V.E jealously over the Black Coffee pop up shop in Melbourne. All the underground stuff happens there, Sydney could we catch up a little?! All I gotta say is we're mightly jealous and would have had many a coffee there whilst it was open. Props. Tre Cool. See more shots here.

Arnotts Limited Edition Bikkie Tin

This is the job we have been itchin' to tell you about. We'll cut to the chase.

Our brief was to design the tin for Arnotts Limited Edition Bikkie Tin that would be sold exclusively through Woolworths. We presented 3 concepts; all illustrated by the 31st team!

1. The Australian Tea Party
A take on tea and bikkies the ultimate combo anytime-of-day
2. Modern Classics
Your most loved Arnotts bikkies illustrated into a repeat pattern,
3. Australian Flora and Fauna
Celebrating aussie icons and Arnotts bikkies

When we present concepts, we cross our fingers and toes hoping the client loves ONE! BUT, in this case, they LOVED ALL THREE. AND, all three have been produced. WTF?!

We are extremely proud of these and hope you like them too. Oh, and did we mention we created the Belly Band and complete POS campaign too - double down S.C.O.R.E!

My favourite things in August

Geez louise, this year is tickin' along and we can't believe we are seeing snippets of summer and trekking full force right through to Christmas.

This month we've been lovin...

1. Tokyo Bike
The newest edition to the 31stsecond office, she's light, fast and a city commuter bike that has the strength to go from suburb-to-suburb. Straight out of Japan, these Japs sure-do know how to make good gadgets. Jadore.

2. Barbeques and Beetroot sausages
Rach and Libs were all over this like-white-on-rice. We hoovered these pork and beetroot sausages quicker than you can schazam that song. Pick them up at Dulwich Hill Gourmet Butchers, and a little word of warning - locals know these puppies sell out by midday so chopity-chop! Check them out here.

3. Feast Magazine
SBS's newest edition to their successful foodie empire. The velvety cover got me in, great graphics and no-nonsense styling totally had us by page 3. With lots more than just recipes - this mag - takes you through butchery how-to's and SBS's signature 6 billion stories and counting philosophy focusing on how food enhances story telling and is a cultural enhancer. Check the mag out here.

Well, I'll have a gin and tonic please

It's been a hectic two weeks and we've been pumpin' out some killer work. Today we had a MTB. You know - a moment-to-breathe. We had a chance to take 5, have a cup o' tea and look at some of the work we've completed in the last three weeks.

We were asked to create some on-premise point of sale for Bombay Sapphire - to promote their drink of the month, The Collins. The piece we love the most is the interactive coaster which the audience can draw on which fits in with their marketing campaign too "Infuse your Imagination" - hello innovation!

Very swanky-lookin' if we do say so ourselves... and we'll have three Collins please. Extra shot, extra cold lemon. Yuuuum!

REMEMBER TO DRINK RESPONSIBLY

Simplicity

Sometimes I have a tendency to overwork design jobs. Add another graphic device, add a quirky icon or overlay a pattern - which sometimes works and other times is just there because I'm putting it in hoping it will magically make the job look better. You know the more is more graphic design block that happens sometimes...

The other day I stumbled across the images from the Antipodium for Sportsgirl lookbook and it struck a chord. It's so damn simple, utilising the slanted corners from left to rignt framing the model and drawing you eye to the clothes *ka-ching*. The FACT that those slanted corners subconsciously harp to the brand by creating an A-form. Then adding in a contrasting image which is *bang-on* trend at-the-mo. Ahhhhh, lookbook love.

The moral of the story, don't overwork it baby. Be clever. Be simple. And remember what the focus is.
